Chai for Thai off Bedford Ave

Ah yes. Finally I’m reviewing another restaurant. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

I was out with my bf in Williamsburg and we decided to venture towards Chai. I’d eaten there before and was pleasantly surprised. He’d gone there plenty of times with his roommate and his roommate’s girlfriend.

Normally I don’t like Thai food at all, mostly because the first time I had it was just awful and that experience has tainted my opinion of it ever since. But this place was pretty nice. It has a very cozy and stylish decor with a relaxing pool with flowers.

The best part is the lunch special from 12pm to 4pm: $5.95 for an appetizer and entree with your choice of chicken, beef, or tofu. I don’t know if the price made the food better or if the food made the price even better.

Cook Your Food Stupid

I’m a huge advocate of cooking your own food rather than eating out. Although eating out is fun and occasionally unavoidable, nothing beats the satisfaction of a home-cooked meal. Not only can you control what goes in it, but it saves so much more money than eating the same meal at a restaurant.

College students especially need to hold fast to this fact. We’re spending all this money on tuition, supplies, etc…we don’t need to be blowing even more money on food you can easily make yourself.

Yes EasyMac and Ramen are cheap and fast, but the sodium and msg in that could probably kill you before you graduate. It’s not hard to eat right AND cheap!!

On that note, here’s what I made for lunch today.

Ristorante Italiano

I have to confess: I’m not a fan of Italian restaurants.

Don’t get me wrong! I love Italian food, but I’d much rather make it myself from store bought pasta and sauce than go to a fancy place and pay up the wazoo for the same stuff.

Seriously, every Italian place I’ve gone to I have left very unsatisfied. From Little Italy (DO NOT GO TO LITTLE ITALY), to around Manhattan, and even to a place in Brooklyn recommended by a REAL Italian family, I’ve not found a place to my liking. And don’t even get me started on the prices.

Maybe I have skewed preferences when it comes to sauce, but is it so wrong to want my sauce to have a fresh, slightly sweet, tomato-y taste? Is it?

It’s That Time Again…again

As luck would have it, Restaurant Week has been extended to Labor Day folks.

This time, I’m in town to catch it.

Slim is finally back in NY.

It’s That Time Again

So, I’m technically not in NY at the moment, which makes this blog a LIE, a BOLD-FACE LIE!

But, I’ll at least keep my duty to remind those that Restaurant Week has come around again. Okay, so I’m a little late. Sue me; I’m in Georgia. At least you can still catch the 2nd half.

For those of you who don’t know, Restaurant Week is the time many high-end restaurants offer a prix-fixe (fixed price) meal at a considerably cheaper price then they normally do. $24.07 for Lunch and $35 for Dinner (+ the whopping 8.375% NY Sales Tax). Just look at their normal menus and you’ll know it’s a deal. Also, note that it’s only during the week, not the weekends.

And, NO not every restaurant in Manhattan is giving away cheap bites, only certain ones and for certain meals. So check the list.

Don’t fret too much if you miss it. Unlike Christmas, this baby comes around twice a year. Just try again in January.

I’ve browsed the list, and if I could, I would definitely choose to go to Butter at 415 LaFayette St. Not only because the name sounds so fattening, but because it actually lists the menu they offer for restaurant week. gasp! Is that honestly so hard to do??

But I digress. The website looks nice, the interior looks nice, but most importantly, the menu they are offering looks delectable. Makes me wish I were back up there now.
