If you haven’t shopped at the Union Square Green Market and you’re a tourist. You are forgiven. If you are a Manhattan resident and you have yet to shop at the Union Square Green Market, shame shame shame.
It’s basically a collection of upstate and Jersey farmers that travel into the city to sell they bounty, delicious bounty. Yes, a farmer’s market. A wide variety of fruits and vegetables are offered along with baked goodies, wines, cheeses, meats, seafood. You name it.
Now is an especially good time to go. Lots of apples to pick from and where there are apples, there is delicious apple cider. The market, sadly, isn’t around everyday. They’re at Union Square Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Though most of the stalls are there on all the days, there are certain gems that come in one day of the week.
I have to admit, I haven’t frequented them as often as I did last year due to school and work, but I finally got around to some goodies today: some nice gala apples, bosc pears, and a lovely loaf of freshly baked bread. I haven’t had bread this good since…well last year when I would buy bread from the farmer’s market at least a couple of times a month. The thick chewy crust with the soft interior was too much to resist that I have devoured the entire loaf by myself, all today. An entire loaf. In like 3 sittings.
The astounding evidence:
That’s what’s left of my gorgeous loaf…or at least at the time of the picture. You all know I’m munching on the last bite of it as I’m typing right now.
Woohoo for midnight carbs!

I know the feeling…. I once had a craving for toasty bread and butter. So I got myself a fresh french loaf and toasted it up a bit at home and grabbed some butter.
Five hours, half a stick of butter, and an empty bag later? I was satisfied.
I think I was full for like a week afterwards…
